Ok, so everyone knows that Apples iPhone apps have been immensely popular with some 1billion apps being downloaded in the last year. Everyone also knows that if you come up with a great idea there is a chance (albeit slim) that you might just be able to net yourself a small fortune, one of example being Kostas Eleftheriou’s iSteam app which made him and his company a reported £40,000+
What the naive amongst us won’t know however, is that developing an iPhone app is an incredibly arduous, time consuming and potentially expensive task.
Now, of course we’re not saying that someone with little/no knowledge of software development can’t create an iPhone app because with a little time and dedication it is indeed possible (anybody hear about the 9 year old developer Lim Ding Wen?) but what happens when you simply just don’t have the time or inclination to sit before a computer working your way through laborious trial and error techniques in order to realise your awesome, lucrative app that came to you in a bolt of inspiration? Well, cue Mr. Rob Shoesmith whose recent endeavours in partnership with a US based software development company have attracted the attentions of the national press, not to mention the wider community of budding developers and app fanatics. This is Rob’s guest post, exclusive to TSF.

Some of you might know that this week saw the launch of Nokia’s new and eagerly awaited online software application store entitled Ovi, which my very good Finnish tells me is indeed Finnish for ‘door’. Obviously the intention of this new venture is to rival that of the iPhone app store, but do Nokia have a case?

Our regular readers will know that here at TSF we just love to bring you the very latest news concerning the growth of the touchscreen phone market because we firmly believe that such an innovation can only become a massive success and will prove to be as much of an integrated part of our lives as, well, the last massive success. TSF also believes that like all innovative technologies, over time retail prices will become lower, leading to increased accessibility, which will ultimately translate into increased sales figures.
Every now and then different establishments confirm TSF’s beliefs by releasing mouth watering statistics about the growth of the industry or sales of handsets (see Samsung & LG posts), and now market researchers DisplaySeacrh have gone and done just that.
DisplaySearch specialise in providing research for display related industries and have been at the forefront of their field for over 10 years now. So it would seem that they are more than qualified to announce their forecast that the touchscreen module market will reach $9 billion by the year 2015, up from $3.6 billion in 2008, with a compound annual growth rate of 14%.

News has reached Touchscreen Fones that both LG and Samsung, irrefutably two major players in the touchscreen phone market, have both reported sales of 20,000,000 touchscreen units each. This staggering figure is due in no small part to the excellent features and functionality of such models as the Samsung Tocco and the LG Arena, both of which are featured here on Touchscreen Fones.
