LG confirmed this week that their ultra futuristic but very familiar (too many Bond films?) wristwatch phone, the DG910, will be hitting Europe very shortly and will be possibly be in stores in the UK by July. Something of a concept phone of fantasy, the LG DG910 is of course has touchscreen capabilities and video call functionality and should be available via Orange and Carphone Warehouse at a price of around £1000…..yes you read that correctly, one thousand pounds.
We featured a guest post from the one and only Rob Shoesmith very recently (click here to read it) and it would seem that since then plenty of other people have caught wind of his imminent success including more of the national media. A crew from BBC Midlands joined Rob on his morning rounds to ask him about his plans and journey so far.
We’re told by Rob that everyday brings increased attention and there are more media features on the way. You can follow Rob’s progress by checking back here at Touchscreen Fones and by following him on Twitter where his username is shoesmith81.
For those of who are eagerly awaiting the release of perhaps the most hotly anticipated mobile phone of the year, news has reached TSF that N97 will be with us very shortly indeed. As proof, Nokia have posted a video over at Nokia Conversations of workers at their factory in Finland assembling and preparing the phones for dispatch.
Nokia are said to expect around 10million of these phones to be sold. When talking to Bloomberg, Nokia’s VP Jonas Geust said that the N97 “should not be a niche product, and comprising the best elements of touchscreen and QWERTY it looks sure to be a success. It will have some touch competition however with the impending release of the Palm Pre and the rumoured updated iPhone.
We all remember our first mobile phones and we’ve all joked about the resemblance between early mobile phones and bricks, but to fully appreciate how your super duper smartphone came to be you need illustrations. Click here.

Ok, so everyone knows that Apples iPhone apps have been immensely popular with some 1billion apps being downloaded in the last year. Everyone also knows that if you come up with a great idea there is a chance (albeit slim) that you might just be able to net yourself a small fortune, one of example being Kostas Eleftheriou’s iSteam app which made him and his company a reported £40,000+
What the naive amongst us won’t know however, is that developing an iPhone app is an incredibly arduous, time consuming and potentially expensive task.
Now, of course we’re not saying that someone with little/no knowledge of software development can’t create an iPhone app because with a little time and dedication it is indeed possible (anybody hear about the 9 year old developer Lim Ding Wen?) but what happens when you simply just don’t have the time or inclination to sit before a computer working your way through laborious trial and error techniques in order to realise your awesome, lucrative app that came to you in a bolt of inspiration? Well, cue Mr. Rob Shoesmith whose recent endeavours in partnership with a US based software development company have attracted the attentions of the national press, not to mention the wider community of budding developers and app fanatics. This is Rob’s guest post, exclusive to TSF.
Some of you might know that this week saw the launch of Nokia’s new and eagerly awaited online software application store entitled Ovi, which my very good Finnish tells me is indeed Finnish for ‘door’. Obviously the intention of this new venture is to rival that of the iPhone app store, but do Nokia have a case?
Just a quick heads up to let you all know that you could be up for a chance of winning a brand spanking new Nokia N97. This is perhaps the most eagerly anticipated phone of the year so to win one would be absolutely amazing.
To be in with chance all you have to do is go to Dial-a-Phone and register to recieve news on upcoming models, then you’re name will be entered into the draw. Good luck to you all!
